Board of Education to Hold Special Meeting Tonight

This evening at 7:30 p.m., the Bridgewater-Raritan Board of Education will hold a Special Meeting beginning with a closed-door executive session at the Wade Administration Building in Martinsville.

The agenda is brief, stating that "the topic for discussion is:  settlement of litigation involving L.M. with Board Counsel."

Although the precise meaning of the subject matter  "L.M." is not specified in the agenda, its exact nature will be evident to those who have followed board matters concerning events swirling around prominent staff members during the last year.

The agenda further states that "it is expected that the details of the discussion may be made public as soon as the issues may be acted upon publicly." Normally, this boilerplate language means that the public won't know for a long time.

However, tonight is likely to be very different.  This is a single topic executive session, after which the meeting will be opened for "public comment" and "board action" on this one topic.

Everyone in the administration, the staff and the teachers know what this is about.  So do the many parents who have showed up voicing their concerns and opinions at prior meetings to make themselves heard on the matter.

The Board of Education seems to be following protocol to a "T" on this one.  I only wish that they had filled in the letters of the alphabet following each of the capital letters "L" and "M" in the agenda.  No need to have kept mysterious something that most board observers recognize.

Tonight should bring a large gathering of interested parents.  But, one never knows.

Thanks for reading.  Good to be back.
