Board of Education to Hold Special Meeting to Discuss Disposition of $1.3M

In a brief discussion this evening with Evan Lerner, President of the Bridgewater-Raritan Board of Education, he indicated that he is calling a previously unscheduled meeting for Monday evening, July 18, at the Wade Administration Building in Martinsville.  The time is tentatively set for 8:00 PM.

The purpose of that meeting is for the Board and its administration to discuss how it will allocate the $1,331,545 of additional school aid funding which the New Jersey Department of Education is providing to the Bridgewater-Raritan School District.

That amount is over and above the original school aid which was included in the budget adopted by voters on April 27th.

Prior to this evening’s announcement, the next meeting had been scheduled for Tuesday, July 26.  However, as Mr. Lerner pointed out, that is too late to resolve the use of the $1.3 million in unanticipated, additional state aid.

School budgets have already been cast and approved by voters, and it’s getting very late in the season for the finalization of the school tax rate for the communities of Bridgewater and Raritan.

Mr. Lerner provided no indication as to how the Board might act to allocate use of the $1.3 million.  Meeting in its entirety (the technical term is “meeting as a whole”) the Board has to deliberate that question and make the final decision.

Between now and Monday night, it’s likely that alternatives will be put together and, if past practice holds and time permits, an information packet may go out late Friday afternoon to each Board Member for their individual study over the weekend

Let’s see how all this shakes out Monday night.

Thanks for reading.  I hope that you are enjoying the cooler, dry weather.  It’s mid-summer, and the season is tightening up.  Enjoy it.  There is another searing heat wave predicted for late next week.
