Giranda is a former member of that Board, and Kane is a recently retired educator whose last position was as a supervisor of math and science within the Bridgewater-Raritan School District.
Those two characteristics place them outside the usual profile of candidates. It makes them strong contenders, because Giranda brings prior inside knowledge of how a board of education works, while Kane’s entire career as an educator has been within this school district.
They will be running for the two open Bridgewater seats against incumbents Evan Lerner, Board Vice-President, and Arvind Mathur, Chairman of the Facilities Committee. Al Smith, Raritan’s current representative on the Board is also running for re-election. It is not known yet whether any late-filing candidates have come forward for Raritan.
As of 2:00 PM today, calls placed to the office of Peter Starrs, Board Secretary/Administrator, to confirm Giranda’s and Kane’s candidacy have not yet been returned, but I have been able to verify this independently through reliable sources.
The deadline for filing applications for the Bridgewater-Raritan Board of Education is the close of business today, and it is possible that other candidates could file for either Bridgewater or Raritan.
