Christie Still Fund-Raising, Still Dodging Bullets

As New Jersey Governor Chris Christie keeps up his out-of-state fund-raising efforts on behalf of the Republican Governors Association, his state-wide political critics in New Jersey, together with the editorial page writers of the region’s largest daily newspaper continue to batter his record.

However, outside of New Jersey it’s a different story.  Despite all of the heavily negative reporting about the so-called Bridgegate incident, no evidence has yet surfaced showing that Christie had direct or indirect participation in its planning and execution.

Millions have been spent on investigating what amounts to a two-lane, four-day closure of certain access lanes to the George Washington Bridge.  So far, if the purpose was to nail Christie, it has failed.

Just how much more is anyone justified in keeping the spotlight on a cold-case event that no observers except diehard enemies of Chris Christie could any longer give a hoot about?

Today, a Malaysian airliner carrying 298 innocent civilian passengers on a flight from the Netherlands to Kuala Lumpur was shot down by a Russian anti-aircraft missile over the skies of the break-away Ukrainian province of Donetsk.  No survivors.

Today, the Israeli Defense Force moved into the Gaza Strip to eliminate non-stop rocket attacks by Hamas, an acknowledged Middle East terrorist organization that refused to negotiate a cease-fire agreement. Many will die.  Many more will be injured.

Those two events today have world-altering consequences.  There are a score of other similar conflicts occurring daily in a world on fire.

That is what’s worth analyzing and writing about -- not what was a politically motivated traffic backup of short duration that occurred long ago on a bridge where traffic tie-ups happen regularly and upon which few are any longer focused.

Unless U.S Attorney for New Jersey Paul Fishman decides to bring indictments or other charges against Chris Christie, the constant stream of accusatory political reporting about him regarding Bridgegate is a dead-horse topic.

Too many politicians are praying for Bridgegate’s revival when there are bigger fish to fry.  It’s now up to Fishman to present his investigation’s up-or-down conclusions.

Correction, July 18, 2014, 10:15 AM:  The number of Americans on this flight, if any, is unknown at this writing.  “About 24” was previously reported in this post.
