The Birthday Celebration Continues

The U.S. Colors fly gently in the warm breeze of
a sunset at the Bridgewater Municipal Complex on
July 1, 2013.
Last night, after celebrating the nation’s birthday party outdoors with neighbors, Priscille and I settled down inside the family room and watched a live broadcast of “A Capital Fourth” on PBS.

The show was a combination of lyrical, orchestral, and foot-thumping music performed by some of this nation’s most talented artists.  For once, the focus was on a patriotic rendition – a little of that not-so-old-fashioned display of love for America.
The talents of those performers emanated from people of all age ranges.  There were the powerful solos rendered by young singers such as Jackie Evancho, and the upcoming country and western star Scotty McCreery who is also working towards a college degree at NC State University.

At the other end of the age spectrum there was the perennially young Neil Diamond, as well as other accomplished individuals like conductors John Williams and Jack Everly who directed The National Symphony Orchestra.
Diamond electrified the large gathering with his powerful musical delivery while eliciting their participation in the program.  He wasn’t the only performer to engage the audience in that manner.

Not forgetting what everyone was there to commemorate, Diamond made it a point to compassionately acknowledge the sacrifices of first responders to the spate of terror attacks on U.S. soil, especially the latest one which occurred at the Boston Marathon.
He also reminded the wide TV audience not to forget the deep personal sacrifices our nation’s brave, recovering fighters returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, some of whom were front-row present.

If you would like to support the construction of smart homes for some of the “most catastrophically injured service members returning home,” please refer to the website www.ourbravest.org to get information about the project and to make a donation, should you be so inclined.
