It Wasn’t Merely the Video . . .

Ambassador Susan Rice addresses the U.N. on Benghazi killings.
. . . which precipitated the assassination of United States Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens, together with three other Americans in Benghazi on September 11, 2012, the 11th anniversary of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Towers in New York City.  Not at all.

Yet, that is precisely what we were told by Obama Administration spokespersons – even, it seems, by President Barack Obama himself.

During an appearance before the United Nations – an event transmitted to the world – U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice declared that the sordid video disparaging Islam and its Prophet Mohammed was the motivation that instigated a gathering of demonstrators which – in a spontaneous uprising – moved violently against Ambassador Stevens and three other Americans.

To emphasize her explanation of this tragedy, she subsequently appeared before TV cameras on the Sunday morning shows, where she held to her position that this catastrophe was the result of unplanned, spontaneous mob unrest.

Similarly, in White House press briefings on the same topic, Jay Carney, Obama’s press secretary, held to the same position, claiming that the video reported to have been produced by an American citizen on the west coast, a Coptic Christian, was the causal factor behind these murders.

President Barack Obama speaks before the United Nations.
President Barack Obama, in his address to the United Nations after these accounts by his spokespeople, seemed to imply that the video was the source for that violence, while simultaneously claiming freedom of expression.

The Obama Administration’s explanation about what happened on 9/11/2012 in Benghazi, Libya, was a discoloration of the truth.

Investigations by both CNN and Fox News independently uncovered and confirmed that within 24 hours of the killings, intelligence sources had already determined otherwise.  Both news media debunked the Obama Administration’s prior fabrications.

CNN and Fox News established that the murders of Christopher Stevens and the other Americans were the result of a pre-planned attack carried out by heavily armed al-Qaeda-linked militants equipped with automatic weapons and rocket-propelled grenade launchers – hardly the stock-in-trade of a spontaneous crowd uprising.

Even “Libyan President Mohamed Magarief said the deadly Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi, which also resulted in the deaths of three other Americans, was more likely pegged to the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.”
Since the disclosure of the truth behind the Benghazi killings was made public, the Obama Administration was compelled to back off from its previous position.  FBI investigators had planned to fly to Benghazi to investigate the crime scene, but they won’t go now, citing security concerns.
